Things to know

Please don’t flash ROM of one model to another model of Sony Smartphone. It will brick your phone.

Before you start

Make the backup of your data and your current ROM before you start this tutorial. Everything will be deleted from your internal storage. If anything bad happens to your phone than I am not responsible.

Please make sure the necessary drivers are installed for your device on your computer. PC Companion is recommended because it installs the required driver.

Download the official firmware that you want to install from XDA developers websites. Please note that you should download the firmware that is related to your model, not any other firmware. More links are given below:

How to install official Kitkat 4.4.4 ROM(10.5.A.0.230)?

Step 1

Download the Flashtool and install it to your Computer.

Step 2

After installing the Flashtool and downloading the firmware, copy your downloaded firmware which is in .ftf format on the Firmware folder on the installation folder of flashtool. It General Installation path is C:/Flashtool/Firmwares.

Step 3

Now Run the Flashtool.exe, connect your device to the computer and see if your device is detected by the software or not. Make sure flashtool recognizes your device. If it doesnot recognize than navigate to C:/Flashtool/Driver which has the Flashtool-drivers for all Xperia devices, you may install drivers through Flashtool in case you face any difficulty at the time of flashing. Access the Flashtool-drivers and install Fastboot & Flashmode drivers as well first.

In Flashtool, click the lightening button on the top left, select whether you want to run Flashmode or Fastboot mode. Flashmode is the one you’ll need most probably while you’re trying to install an ftf file, select it and press Ok.

Step 5

Select the firmware or the file that you want to flash here, if you don’t know what other options do than just leave it as default and hit Flash at Right bottom side of the windows.

Step 6

As soon as the file is loaded, you should see a pop up, prompting you to connect your device to the PC in Flashmode. Now, turn off your device, and connect to your PC using the original data cable while keeping the Volume down key pressed. This is for flashmode.

After you’ve connected your device successfully, the Flashing will start, wait and sit back while the flashing gets completed. You should see the logs now, as soon as it is done the ”Disconnect and restart your phone” will appear at the bottom. Now just Disconnect your phone and restart your device. Now you have latest version of Sony Xperia  Kitkaat 4.4.4 installed.

As per the performances for sony xperia z, it is pretty fast than the previous version. In Kitkat 4.4.2 when scrolling through settings, there was a lag, but now with kitkat 4.4.4 there is no lag. All and all, I am satisfied with this version till now. If there is any issue, I will be updating in the future so subscribe to get the future updates.
