Before you start

Make the backup of your data and your current ROM before you start this tutorial. Everything will be deleted from your internal storage. If anything bad happens to your phone than I am not responsible.

Please make sure the necessary drivers are installed for your device on your computer. PC Companion is recommended because it installs the required driver.

Please report the broken link, if you found one. Do you have the link for latest version of Android Kitkat for sony xperia devices for different locations, just put the link on comment box below and help other users. I will also be updating other links if I found one for other locations.

If you don’t find your version here just search it on the internet. You should be able to find.

Step 3

After installing the Flashtool and downloading the firmware, copy your downloaded firmware which is in .ftf format on the Firmware folder on the installation folder of flashtool. It General Installation path is C:/Flashtool/Firmwares.

Step 4

Now Run the Flashtool.exe, connect your device to the computer and see if your device is detected by the software or not. Make sure flashtool recognizes your device. If it doesnot recognize than navigate to C:/Flashtool/Driver which has the Flashtool-drivers for all Xperia devices, you may install drivers through Flashtool in case you face any difficulty at the time of flashing. Access the Flashtool-drivers and install Fastboot & Flashmode drivers as well first.

Step 5

In Flashtool, click the lightening button on the top left, select whether you want to run Flashmode or Fastboot mode. Flashmode is the one you’ll need most probably while you’re trying to install an ftf file, select it and press Ok.

Step 6

Select the firmware or the file that you want to flash here, if you don’t know what other options do than just leave it as default and hit Flash at Right bottom side of the windows.

Step 7

As soon as the file is loaded, you should see a pop up, prompting you to connect your device to the PC in Flashmode. Now, turn off your device, and connect to your PC using the original data cable while keeping the Volume down key pressed. This is for flashmode.

I changed the theme so it looks a little bit different.

After you’ve connected your device successfully, the Flashing will start, wait and sit back while the flashing gets completed. You should see the logs now, as soon as it is done the ”Disconnect and restart your phone” will appear at the bottom. Now just Disconnect your phone and restart your device. Now you have latest version of Sony Xperia Z Kitkaat 4.4.2 installed.

Root your Sony Xperia Z Kitkat

If you want to root your phone, than you can follow the tutorial here.

If any one have Battery drainage problem:

Some of the people were complaining about battery drainage. The root cause of this is related to the latest version of Google Play Services (4.4.52). Until a new version of Google Play Services is provided by Google either uninstall the latest update of Google Play Services (might limit use of Google Services like Youtube) or go to Settings > Google (accounts) > Ads > Tick the box for Opt out of interest-based ads and also disable back up of your data by going to Settings > Backup & reset (Personal) > uncheck the box for “Back up my data”.

If you are unable to uninstall the update for Google Play Services from Settings > Apps, go to Settings -> Security -> Device administrators and disable “Android Device Manager”. Also check the settings in the Play Store so that automatic updates is not enabled as this may update Google Play Services again automatically.

About the Torrents files:

Also, I would like to notify you that the download link to the torrent is not from me and is provided by . I have seen the issue with C6606, when you download the file it says it is for C6616. I don’t know if it is really for C6616 or C6606, but as to my knowledge there is not much of difference. I would like to ask you readers from T-mobile from US to make a ftf file for C6606 and upload it to some website and provide the link to me in Comment box. So that it will be useful for others users also. Is there anyone who could help me?
