Turn your Windows 8 and windows 8.1 into a Hotspot without installing any extra software

We have already reviewed Connectify long time ago, which converts your PC into a hotspot. But today we will see how to convert your PC to a Hotspot without using any software. In windows 7 you could create ad hoc wireless connection and could connect one or more computers, but as you cannot find this function on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 we will still make a hotspot using some other simple tricks.

Things to know before you start

You should be connected to internet through Ethernet cable in-order to do this trick. As we will be using the Wireless network card to share the WiFi, we would be using the Ethernet cable to connect to internet.

How to create the HotSpot on windows 8 and windows 8.1?

The process should not be that difficult. If you follow the steps carefully, everything should go well.

Step 1

Open your Command Prompt with administrative rights. Just type “cmd” on the home-screen and right click on command prompt and click “Run with administrative rights”

Step 2

Now on the command prompt type the following command:

[sourcecode language=”plain”]
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Yourhotspotname key=Yourhotspotpassword

This process will create the access point. Change Yourhotspotname with the name of the name of your hotspot and Yourhotspotpassword with the passoword you want to give. Give anything you want and you can remember and write it somewhere.

Step 3

Again type the following command:

[sourcecode language=”plain”]
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

This will start the virtual adapter.

Step 4

make windows hotspot[AdSense-B]

Now open the Network and Sharing Center, there you can see minimum of two active connection. One is the internet connection, that you have been connected through Ethernet and the second one is the Virtual network that you just created. You can open Network and Sharing Center just by searching it from the home-screen or by right clicking the internet connection icon on your tray and clicking on Network and Sharing Center.

Step 5

On the connection type you will see Ethernet, if you are connected to internet through Ethernet cable.

Click on it and you would be shown a new window.

Step 6

Click on Properties on that window that you opened from step 5. Again a new window will appear.

Step 7

Now go to Sharing tab on that window. Now choose “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet Connection“. On the drop-down menu choose the Virtual adapter that was created earlier on step 3. Now click on OK.

Now enjoy your wireless hotspot from your windows 8 or windows 8.1. Need any help? Just let us know on the comment section.
